Assassin’s Creed Syndicate Scraps Multiplayer for Single-Player Only Experiences

May 13, 2015 by Ian Miles Cheong

There won’t be any multiplayer mode in the upcoming AC.

Multiplayer has always been a big part of the Assassin's Creed series, but the latest offering will not be offering any multiplayer component whatsoever. The decision was presumably based on statistics and data gathered by the game's publisher and developer Ubisoft in Assassin's Creed Unity.

Given that the multiplayer mode often felt like it was forced into the titles to mark a checkbox, few will be sad to see the feature go away, especially if it means the developers can lay a heavier focus on the development of the game's single-player elements.

In an interview with Gamespot, Ubisoft Quebec executive producer Francois Pelland and creative director Marc-Alexis Cote cited a number of reasons as having a large impact on the decision not to include any form of multiplayer in the game.

Given that players take on the role of two characters this time around, and coupled with the fact that there are vehicles to commandeer in this entry in the series, the developer stated that having multiple players charging about on vehicles added complexity to the proceedings.

"The reason we are doing this is to really focus on the roots of the franchise," Cote said. "That’s why all nine studios are focused on delivering this single-player experience."

"We felt like, especially with the type of fight that we have, a very hand-to-hand, very close combat fight, that we needed to have very high responsiveness on the system," said Francois Pelland, who also explained that adding vehicles into the game coupled with a complicated and fast-paced combat system complicated issues on the technical side of things.

Assassin's Creed Syndicate was revealed yesterday, and with its release, we've seen four collectors editions of the game as well as a host of screenshots.
