While new and unique titles are well-loved and much-appreciated in this new age of gaming, players can’t help but enjoy the wave of nostalgia that comes with a good remake or remaster. Over the past few years, God of War, Final Fantasy 7 Remake, and Demon’s Souls have breathed new life into beloved franchises while also showing off what modern hardware has to offer. It’s not a matter of if another remake will be coming to the PlayStation soon–it’s a matter of when. With a seemingly endless supply of popular IPs to choose from, what could be coming down the pipeline next? According to a certain musical source, Sony might be preparing to announce its next big remake as soon as next month.
Folk singer Éabha McMahon, also known as Ava on the stage, has confirmed in a recent interview that she had just taken part in a recording session for a PlayStation game. While this title is unannounced, McMahon confirmed that she had been working with Michael McGlynn on an Irish language piece of music before the pandemic began. When the singer was originally approached about the opportunity, McGlynn specified that it was for a remake of a certain PlayStation title. He also confirmed that it was a “big game” that would be officially announced around Christmas.
The rumor mill, as expected, began churning instantly. Some are speculating that the game in question could be Xenogears after the game’s composer Yasunori Mitsuda posted a picture of himself and McGlynn on social media. Others wonder if the game might be from Sony‘s recently acquired BluePoint Games. The studio has already received accolades for its work on Shadow of the Colossus and Demon’s Souls and is known to already have a game in the works.
Rumors are likely to continue spreading across the internet in the coming weeks, but The Game Awards in December may offer our best chance to get a definitive answer.
