Overwatch 2 Delay Pushes The Game To 2023

November 3, 2021 by Dennis Patrick

It looks like players will have to wait a bit longer for Overwatch 2.

Hero-based shooters have been around for a good while, but Overwatch set a new standard. Finally, Blizzard Entertainment delivered a game that pinned a team of heroes working together in an FPS-style match. With a roster of characters with unique abilities, plenty of newcomers and veterans log into the game daily. Initially, the game launched in 2016, though in 2019, we got the unveiling of an Overwatch 2.

Instead of being a brand new game, this is essentially an update of sorts. Players will receive new heroes and game modes. Best of all, the game would be given to those who already own the original Overwatch title. Unfortunately, we didn’t receive a launch date for the title. That doesn’t matter much anyway since the game has been pushed back even further. A new investor report has come out revealing Overwatch 2 has been delayed.

We didn’t get very much information as to why the delay has come up. Instead, all we know is that developers pushed the game further back than initially intended. However, the developers are still working hard on the title, and this delay will allow the studio to further work on the project for its intended release. That could mean some notable updates and marketing materials could start to hit the public once again this coming year. Of course, that’s purely speculation, but since we haven’t heard about the game in a good while, it’s likely something worth bringing up in 2022 to keep the IP on potential players’ minds.

For now, it’s a waiting game to see just what will come of Overwatch 2. This is quite the wait for fans who have been following the installment since its first release in 2019. In the meantime, the original Overwatch is a competitive FPS game that players can dive into right now. Otherwise, a comparable alternative we often see recommended is Paladins, which may help tie you over until the official sequel release.
