Capcom Revenue Down 37.1 %, But Company Staying Course On Digital/Online Strategy

May 7, 2015 by Ryan Parreno

Capcom can only cite Monster Hunter 4G/Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate as their only unqualified success for the year.

Capcom has continued to have a rough going this financial year. The company has reported annual revenue of ¥ 64.3 billion ($ 538.4 million), a drop of 37.1 % year on year.

This also goes on record as Capcom’s lowest revenue earning year since 2004, when it made ¥ 52.7 billion.

Capcom can only cite Monster Hunter 4G/Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate as their only unqualified success for the year. In February, Capcom cited shipping over three million units worldwide, but on April, they revealed it shipped 1 million units in the US alone, a record for the IP in general.

For other titles, Capcom described solid sales numbers for Ultra Street Fighter 4, and a strong start for Resident Evil Revelations 2, which was released just this February. Capcom did not have many new titles on mobile for the year.

In spite of the poor results, Capcom remains upbeat. They cite streamlining production and focusing on digital delivery to create sustainable growth in the future. They did see increases in operating income (2.7 %) and net income for the year (¥ 6.6 million, a 92.1 % increase year on year).

On Capcom’s slate in the immediate future are Street Fighter V, Dragon’s Dogma Online, and other online titles. Based on their continued activity on the Nintendo eShop, and their recent rerelease of The Misadventures of Tron Bonne on PSN, reissues of older games are forthcoming as well.
