Batman Arkham Knight’s DLC.Season Pass Contents Revealed, Introducing Playable Batgirl

May 3, 2015 by Ryan Parreno

Rocksteady has a rich history to draw from for Batgirl, but it is most likely the upcoming DLC will be related to the events that leads to Barbara becoming Oracle.

Perhaps in reaction to fan outcry for the Season Pass, Rocksteady has voluntarily revealed more information on Batman Arkham Knight’s DLC. This includes confirmation of a story expansion featuring Barbara Gordon’s other alter ego, Batgirl.

Batgirl stars in Batgirl: A Matter of Family. This is a prequel set in a completely new location. And that’s all that Warner has revealed.

We’ll dwell on Batgirl more later, but these are the other contents of the season pass:

·         The Season of Infamy, several super villains invade Gotham, each with their own story arcs and missions.

·         In Gotham City Stories, you play Bruce’s allies, undertaking narrative missions that connect to the events before and after Batman Arkham Knight.

·         One special piece of content are extra Batmobiles and custom race tracks. Each track will be themed to an era one of the Batmobiles also belongs in.

·         There will be Crimefighter Challenge Maps, where you will be able to play Bruce and his allies.

·         Finally, there will be more skins for Batman, Robin, Nightwing and Catwoman.

We can safely assume that this version of Batgirl isn’t based on the current Prime Earth version, who has a redesigned costume and never got paralyzed. Chances are Rocksteady have taken inspiration from New Earth Batgirl, an enduring character of 26 years.

This Batgirl is most famous for having been targeted by Joker in The Killing Joke, but this is unfair to the character herself. At this point, Barbara already retired as a crimefighter, after a long career as a solo vigilante and a successful career woman. History has been unfair in not remembering Batgirl, one of the major female superhero characters of the 60s and 70s, that expanded the company’s female audience.

After being paralyzed from the waist down, Barbara’s character was completely reinvented. As Oracle, she served as an informal intelligence agent, even setting up her own agency, the Birds of Prey. She invariably worked on her own and with Batman, and even gets use of her legs back.

As you can see, Rocksteady has a rich history to draw from for Batgirl, but it is most likely the upcoming DLC will be related to the events that leads to Barbara becoming Oracle.

Batman Arkham Knight will be released on June 23 on Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
