Final Fantasy XV: Square Enix Grades Episode Duscae on a Global Scale

April 28, 2015 by Jacob Saylor

Final Fantasy XV did pretty well, actually.

The demo for Final Fantasy XV recently came packaged with Final Fantasy Type-0 HD. There has been a lot of discussion surrounding the demo, most of it pertinent to the amount of time Final Fantasy XV has been in development. Gamers seem to have reacted positively to the Square Enix-developed game.

This positive energy was proven with concrete evidence, as Square Enix responded to fan feedback in a livestream this morning. The developer conglomerated all of the reviews and opinions of the game – those of which came equipped with a numerical score – and came up with one, quick access guide.

Check it out, and bear in mind that these numbers are for all regions who had access to the demo:

Global Breakdown

  • Music – 9.3
  • Weapons design – 8.9
  • World design – 8.9
  • Event scenes – 8.8
  • Graphic quality – 8.9
  • Open-world gameplay – 8.6
  • Voice acting – 8.6
  • Character dialogue – 8.5
  • Main character design – 8.5
  • How much did you like Noctis’ personality? – 8.4
  • How much did you like Gladiolus’ personality? – 8.5
  • How much did you like Ignis’ personality? – 8.4
  • How much did you like Prompto’s personality? – 7.9
  • Sub-character design – 8.1
  • Game difficulty – 7.9
  • Story – 8.4
  • Tutorial – 8.2
  • Navigation – 8.2
  • Map design – 8.3
  • Battle system – 7.7
  • Amount and variety of content – 7.8
  • Controls – 7.4

As you can see, Duscae scored pretty well, with low finishes in only a few areas, which Square Enix will almost definitely address before Final Fantasy XV's release.

The most common complaints looked something like this:

  • Lock-on features are useless
  • The camera functions poorly
  • The camera was too close to the player's avatar
  • A.I. is dumb and allies are a hindrance
  • There are jagged textures and plenty of frame rate drops
  • There's no mini map; it's been confirmed that this will change in the full retail version of Final Fantasy XV
  • Movements feel slow

You can view the full lists over at Gematsu. Episode Duscae 2.0 is planned for a May 2015 debut.
