Call of Duty: Vanguard is less than two weeks away, and more details have been released regarding the experience PlayStation 5 players can expect. In a new PlayStation blog post, the principal engineer at Sledgehammer Games Chris Fowler explained how the PS5 DualSense controllers will be able to “simulate the trigger weight of real-world weapons.” The adaptive triggers will be used to apply “varying degrees of feedback to help create the feeling of weight on the trigger,” with different weapons applying that feedback in different ways. Basically, every type of gun will feel completely different.
In the post, Fowler explained the stages of a trigger-pull, mentioning that the most important is the ‘break.’ This is “the point at which the shot is fired once a correct amount of pressure is applied” to the trigger. Players can expect some tension when firing a rifle, and some added punch when wielding a large machine gun. This incredible addition to the experience will also note how a soldier’s scope works, “meaning the downsight speed and L2 trigger weight changes based upon what you’re wielding.” Any attachments added to the firearm will also affect how using the scope feels. When an enemy shoots at your cover, players will feel the impact. Sledgehammer claims that this will “add to the visceral experience of global warfare.”
While it’s unclear how successful this installment of the series will be, the game’s writers are already discussing the possibility of making Vanguard a trilogy.
Call of Duty: Vanguard will be released on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on November 5, 2021. The game will support cross-play and cross-progression on release. Yesterday, more details on the game’s operators were shared, including trailers for each of the four characters. Certain operators will only be available during the campaign, while others will only be playable in multiplayer.
