Star Wars Battlefront Won’t Feature a Campaign

April 17, 2015 by Stephen Daly

The Force does not bode well for those who like extensive single player experiences.

Star Wars: Battlefront will not feature a single player campaign, developer DICE has informed IGN.

Instead of a traditional solo experience, the game will offer a series of short missions which can be played alone or co-operatively online or via split-screen.

"I would say they occupy that space…where you play alone," DICE general manager Patrick Bach commented. "Or you can play co-op, split screen or on the internet. The game is first and foremost a multiplayer game. Battlefront was a multiplayer game. That’s the game we wanted to create — to recreate the battles of the Original Trilogy."

Having decided against a fully fledged campaign, Bach explained that these missions are "connected and they are quite different" from the game's core multiplayer offering.

It has been confirmed that the game will be released on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on November 17th, a month before Star Wars: The Force Awakens arrives in cinemas on December 18th. Two weeks before the movie's release, the game will receive free Force Awakens DLC, focusing on the crashed Star Destroyer on the planet Jakku which featured in the second teaser trailer for the film revealed last night.
