GTA 5 PC Version Is Currently Unhackable, Says Modder

April 15, 2015 by Ryan Parreno

Our source claims that other modders he knows shares the same opinion.

A hacker has made a surprising revelation regarding GTA 5 for PC: as of right now, the game is completely unhackable.

Modder ENBSeries / Boris went up on his own forum to tell his followers that Rockstar has done everything to prevent any kind of modding. Editing game files is simply not an option. Boris also says that other modders he know shares the same opinion.

Of course, this will not be what every hacker will think, but Boris says he has no interest in attempting to mod the game until one of these things happens:

Modding becomes possible in the future, either when DRM and encryption is hacked, or when a future patch enables them.

When the game does have a stable patch modders can work from.

After some time passes, since it is not possible to tweak and modify everything on the first day.

Boris made some facetious assertions that GTA Online will likely die soon since modding is not enabled. He may have been joking, but his claim did open up a discussion about modding and online games.

Now, the conventional wisdom is that developers do not want their online games to be hacked. This is either to ensure the game’s quality across the board, to keep their microtransactions business model secure, or simply to protect their IP.

However, as this fan has pointed out, some games allow for modded sessions to run separately from ‘vanilla’ online.

Rockstar could allow for modding on GTA 5 and GTA Online. Doing so may or may not affect the game’s longevity on PC. Do you think Rockstar should allow mods or not? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
