GOG’s DRM-Free Initiative Lets You Reclaim Your Old Games

GOG's practice of offering DRM-free titles continues with the announcement that the company is offering DRM-free downloads of a number of games for preexisting owners, so long as they still have their original game keys. 

Participating games include STALKER: Call of Chernobyl, STALKER: Clear Sky, STALKER: Call of Pripyat, Mount & Blade: Fire & Sword, Eador: Genesis, and Mount & Blade: Warband. More titles are soon to be added. 

That's right–you don't have to purchase the games via GOG to pick up a DRM-free copy. All you need to do is own an original game key from your boxed copy and you'll be well on your way to downloading a DRM-free copy through GOG. 

You can even use the GameSpy or StarForce activation codes on your Steam copy of the participating games to net yourself a DRM-free version via GOG. 

It would appear that the reason for the DRM-free initiative isn't to drive users away from Steam but to provide help for players with boxed copies to play games they already own, that have since been disabled since GameSpy's DRM servers went offline.
