The Binding Of Isaac Rebirth Finally Actually Coming To Nintendo Platforms, And Xbox One

April 2, 2015 by Ryan Parreno

Nicalis mixed up the message by announcing it on April 1, but this is definitely no joke.

After months of teasing and some confusing messaging on April Fool’s Day, Nicalis has confirmed without qualifications that The Binding of Isaac Rebirth is coming to New 3DS, Wii U, and Xbox One.

so for those that only read headlines, binding of isaac rebirth is FOR SURE coming to WiiU, new 3DS & Xbox1 soonish! https://t.co/NG2zNOdkkS

This comes as an incredible end to a years long struggle to get The Binding of Isaac published on Nintendo platforms. In specific, after some years of lobbying from then Nintendo of America employee Dan Adelman, the game was rejected for release on the 3DS eShop for violating one of the companies’ longstanding policies regarding religious content in the game. Nicalis’ Tyrone Rodriguez had apparently still been lobbying for the release this whole time.

Since that time, the game received a remake/sequel called The Binding of Isaac Rebirth, and it was that version that first hit consoles, specifically PlayStation 4 and Vita.

As you may know, Dan very recently left Nintendo to help indies on his own, and he revealed in tweets that convincing Nintendo to publish the game was one of the last things he pulled off in the company. As he alluded to in some interviews, he felt that he had accomplished everything he wanted to in the company, and this was definitely what he meant.

@tyronerodriguez Thanks, man! One of my last victories at Nintendo. Glad it could finally be announced! Congrats!

Nicalis’ Tyrone Rodriguez also confirmed that the game would see no censorship on any of the platforms it is coming to. Of course, they don’t allude to it, but considering the game came to PlayStation first and is still coming to Xbox One, they scored a victory over the ID@Xbox parity clause as well.

The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth for new 3DS, Wii U or Xbox One is not censored in any way.
