Nintendo Direct: Yarn Yoshi Amiibo, N64 And DS Going To EShop, And More

April 1, 2015 by Ryan Parreno

Nintendo announced many indies and reconfirmed many upcoming Wii U and 3DS games.

True to form, Nintendo has made a slew of announcements in today’s Nintendo Direct. We cover everything here that isn’t in our prior posts.

Amiibo had a huge presence in the Direct, with the announcement of amiibo tap, which lets you play highlights from classic eShops games, and Animal Crossing Happy Home Designer, which introduces the new amiibo cards category.

However, a lot of fans eyes were drawn towards Yoshi’s Wooly World, which introduces Yoshi amiibo made of genuine yarn. These Yarn Yoshi come in three colors, and will join in as a secondary Yoshi who can open new paths, just like in coop multiplayer.

Splatoon also got their amiibo announced, for the girl, boy, and squid forms of the Inklings. Each amiibo gives them opportunities to acquire new outfits.

Nintendo took the opportunity to show off other games coming to Wii U and 3DS, including Mario Maker and Puzzle & Dragons, as well as announcing Boxboy, Pokemon Rumble World, and Attack on Titan Humanity in Chains. Code Name STEAM is also getting an update that gives new Nintendo 3DS owners the option to speed up enemy turns.

N64 and DS are finally hitting the Wii U eShop, with the same Wii Shop discount rules for N64 games in effect. Among the first games coming out are Donkey Kong 64,Yoshi’s Island DS,Super Mario 64, andMario Kart DS. We are also getting a batch of new Streetpass games, including UItimate Angler, a fishing game, alongside Streetpass Mii Plaza Premium.
