Mortal Kombat X Producer Shaun Himmerick Quits Twitter Over Threats

March 30, 2015 by Ian Miles Cheong

Shaun Himmerick has quit Twitter due to threats directed at his family.

The producer of Mortal Kombat X has called quits on Twitter after receiving a barrage of threats directed towards his family.

Having grown tired of the abuse he faced daily on the social media network, Mortal Kombat X producer Shaun Himmerick decided to stop using the service soon after changing his name to "come on people."

"So to be clear. The reason I don't want to do this Twitter anymore is not fans asking for characters or hints or whatever. I get that is passion and love for the Mortal Kombat and I also have that. So I get it. No problem. I'm glad people care about their favorites," he wrote.

"I used to be thick skinned enough for the random personal attacks. I'm a big boy I can handle it. I've been in my share of fights. However I cannot deal with the threats of violence to my wife and now young daughter. Threats of sexual violence are even more disturbing.

"You wanna fight me for Any reason. I'm probably willing to go, verbally or physically. I can hold my own. But threats on my ladies? No."

Twitter has repeatedly vowed to improve the quality of its service by implementing better mechancis for reporting abusive accounts, with Twitter CEO Dick Costolo admitting that the platform is sub-par in how its deals with abuse and trolls (The Verge).

Costolo wrote, "I'm frankly ashamed of how poorly we've dealt with this issue during my tenure as CEO. It's absurd. There's no excuse for it. I take full responsibility for not being more aggressive on this front. It's nobody else's fault but mine, and it's embarrassing."

Unfortunately, whatever changes they have in store all come too late as more and more users depart from the service over unchecked abuse.
