Pillars of Eternity’s Trial of Iron Has a Hidden Surprise if You Try to Cheat

March 30, 2015 by Ian Miles Cheong

Pillars of Eternity’s developer has a message for those of you who try to cheat in Trial of Iron.

If you play Pillars of Eternity, you'll know that there's a mode in the game called Trial of Iron that provides you with only a single save file for the entire playthrough. If your main character is killed, the game deletes your save file. It's the hardest difficulty the game has to offer.

That said, it's possible to copy the save file and cheat–thus defeating the purpose of Trial of Iron entirely. If you look for the save file, you will find a text file with words from the game's lead developer J.E. Sawyer, which reads as follows:

Well played, sir.
