Halo 5: Guardians Only Uses Dedicated Servers in Multiplayer

March 20, 2015 by Jacob Saylor

Good news.

Halo 5: Guardians will be making its debut on Microsoft's Xbox One console later this year. While there's no specific release date currently specified, we're expecting that the game will hit store shelves closer to the holiday season. When E3 rolls around in June, the fog surrounding Halo 5 and its release date should dissipate.

Last year, Halo: The Master Chief Collection came out on Xbox One. It had a myriad of different technical issues and fans have been wondering if these will persist in future 343 Industries games. A post by one staff member on the Team Beyond forums reveals that the team is taking measures to make sure Halo 5 doesn't suffer from the same problems as The Master Chief Collection.

Here is what user Sal1ent had to say in response to a fan asking about dedicated servers in Halo 5:

"We only have dedicated servers for MP in Halo 5: Guardians. That's true for matchmaking AND customs. There is no P2P."

Halo 5's multiplayer will only use dedicated servers. This will help to minimize and mitigate the effects of disconnects in multiplayer sessions, which was one of the main drawbacks of The Master Chief Collection.
