A Major Licensing Agreement Saved Crysis Developer Crytek

March 17, 2015 by Ian Miles Cheong

Crytek was saved last year by a major licensing agreement.

Crytek, the makers of the Crysis series of games and the first Far Cry, have revealed that they secured a major licensing deal with an undiscloesd company, saving it from the financial crisis it faced last year.

Speaking to Develop, Crytek co-founder Faruk Yerli disclosed the license as a “huge one, probably the biggest one” for the company.

"I can't say anything more in detail," he said, "but hopefully we'll be able to announce it with the partner soon."

"A lot of people are under the impression we had to find a new investor or something," added head of PR Jens Schaefer, "but that wasn't the case. We made a licensing deal."

Due to its financial problems, Crytek had to shutter its UK-based development studio Crytek UK, which was working on Homefront: The Revolution at the time, a game that has since changed hands and is now under development at publisher Deep Silver.
