Torchlight II Released for Mac OS X Late, Runic Games Apologizes for Delay

March 16, 2015 by Ian Miles Cheong

A Runic Games dev apologizes for the delay of Torchlight II for the Mac.

Torchlight II was released on September 20, 2012 for the PC. It received good reviews from both the fans and critics alike. However, many who purchased the game did so under the expectation that the game would be released for the Linux and Mac OS X, as the developer promised.

However, after the Mac OS X and Linux ports did not materialize within the first few months of the game’s release, many people gave up upon ever getting the game for those platforms. One user expressed his disappointment on Reddit, in a post that went viral earlier today, exclaiming that he would no longer wish to purchase games from the developer in the future despite the game's recent release on the Mac (it came out last month).

Posting under his nickname Volbard, developer John Dunbar explained why the port took so long to make, and apologized for the delay.

“Hey, I'm John Dunbar from Runic, sorry this port took forever, just like the TL1 mac port.

We're a small team at Runic, and porting to mac and linux isn't something any of the Runic programmers specialize in, so we have to out-source it. Sometimes that goes super well! Mostly it doesn’t.

A fast port to Mac isn't something we meant to promise, but it happened somewhere, and it sucks that some people bought the game anticipating a port that took forever to materialize. Sorry gh5046, I wish we could have gotten it out sooner. It's especially lame that you pre-ordered the game to support us and then got screwed.

I hope you'll check out one of our games in the future, but I definitely understand if you wait to try the demo first. I just want to make fun games, you probably just wanted to play fun games, hopefully next time we can make that work.”
