Elite: Dangerous for Consoles Will not be ‘Dumbed Down’

March 5, 2015 by Ian Miles Cheong

The console version of Elite: Dangerous will provide the same experience as on the PC.

Contrary to the popular belief that only the PC can have hardcore games, Elite: Dangerous is headed to the Xbox One and it won't be "dumbed down" in any way, says its developer.

Speaking at GDC last night, David Braben, CEO of Frontier, announced that Elite: Dangerous will be making its console debut on the Xbox One. This announcement was met with surprise and even a little concern over whether the console version of the title would provide the same experience as its PC counterpart.

Braben took to the game's official forums to clarify that the console version of the game would not be inferior in any way.

“Elite: Dangerous on Xbox One will be the complete and authentic Elite: Dangerous experience. It will not be “dumbed down”. We’ll be working with an all-new audience, but that doesn’t mean a change in direction for the game, and nor does it mean slowing development on the PC version,” said Braben.

"More players across more formats means we can devote more resources to development. The more players we have, the better the game will become. Elite: Dangerous is a living game and it will keep growing on all our formats so long as people are excited to play it. "

Braben also explained that the PC, Mac and Xbox One versions of the game will share an overarching narrative and galaxy state.

Right on.
