Phil Spencer Reveals Xbox One Screenshot Feature

February 9, 2015 by Ian Miles Cheong

The Xbox One will soon have the capability to take screenshots.

Microsoft’s Phil Spencer, head honcho of their Xbox department, has teased an upcoming Xbox One screenshot feature that allows players to take screenshots of their favorite games. It’s surprising that such a feature wasn’t already available for the platform upon its release, but it’s better late than never.

"Nice to finally be doing this on my Xbox One dev kit," wrote Spencer on Twitter while teasing the feature. Spencer’s message was accompanied by an image showcasing the Xbox One’s double-tap guide menu where an option to save a screenshot is set to reside.

It’s not as easy to use as the PlayStation 4’s “Share” button, but it’s better than not having the feature at all.

The ability to take screenshots on the Xbox One has been a top request from users of the device since its launch, and it’s good to see Microsoft taking steps to implement it. The company has remained elusive about its implementation until now, and hopes to streamline the function before releasing it to the public.

The public can expect to take screenshots on the Xbox One with the release of new firmware in the near future. With any luck, you’ll be able to take screenshots by saying “screenshot” into the Kinect or something.
