PS3 Error/Bug Fixed?

March 1, 2010 by Gameranx Staff

Ps3 owners reporting that their consoles are now working

psn

If you are one of those who have been facing problems accessing the PSN or launching games in the past few hours on your fat ps3, you were not alone, this issue is plaguing ps3 users from feb 28th and Sony is advising you to turn off your playstation 3 until the guys at Sony resolve the issue(error:8001050F) in order to avoid further damage.

Some people are reporting that the Error/Bug has been resolved and our very own ps3(the fat one) is now seamlessly connecting to the Playstation Network but we would still advise impatient readers to wait for the official nod from Sony which we’ll report as soon as we receive any further details.

If you are curious enough to know what was causing the problem?
It’s the system clock which is programmed to think that every even year is a leap year which means today is Feb 29, 2010 but the OS clock doesn’t have that date in it’s database and this conflict is making the ps3 go wacky. You might ask why did this not happen in 2008, well, 2008 was a leap year so the system clock and OS were both sharing the correct date.

The official statement from Sony has outlined the following errors:

Errors include:
The date of the PS3 system may be re-set to Jan 1, 2000.When the user tries to sign in to the PlayStation Network, the following message appears on the screen; “An error has occurred. You have been signed out of PlayStation Network (8001050F)”.
When the user tries to launch a game, the following error message appears on the screen and the trophy data may disappear; “Failed to install trophies. Please exit your game.”
When the user tries to set the time and date of the system via the Internet, the following message appears on the screen; “The current date and time could not be obtained. (8001050F)”
Users are not able to play back certain rental video downloaded from the PlayStation Store before the expiration date.
