StarCraft II: Legacy Of The Void Due To Release This Year

February 2, 2015 by John Walton

Insider source at Activision Blizzard claims that the next StarCraft II expansion will launch in 2015. Hell, it’s about time.

According to an unnamed source at Activision Blizzard, the latest addition in the critically acclaimed science fiction franchise StarCraft, will launch in 2015. Conversing with a contributor for Yahoo Finance, the source stated that development on the expansion has been completed and that Blizzard are still deciding on a release window for the game. Officially, Activision Blizzard have been somewhat quiet regarding the expansion yet revealed a trailer for it at last year's BlizzCon at the Anaheim Convention Center in California.

Legacy of the Void will be the third and final part in a planned trilogy – following Wings of Liberty and Heart of the Swarm – but will also serve as a stand alone title, and will usher in a plethora of gameplay changes, additional units and a new campaign revolving around the enigmatic Protoss and their desperate attempt to reclaim their lost homeworld of Aiur from a malevolent extraterrestial race known collectively as the Zerg.

It will also see the return of fan favourites such as Jim Raynor and Sarah Kerrigan, fresh from their triumph over the tyrannical regime of the Terran Dominion. They will be joined by Artanis, a returning character from StarCraft: Brood War who will serve as the player character for the Protoss campaign as he attempts to liberate the homeworld of his species from an insidious and unknowable threat.

StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty, the base game on which Legacy of the Void builds upon was released in 2010 as a sequel to the multiple award-winning StarCraft and its own expansion StarCraft: Brood War.
