Petroglyph’s Upcoming MMO RTS End of Nations to be Free To Play

August 12, 2011 by Josh Wanamaker

Petroglyph has announced that their upcoming MMO RTS title to be published by Trion Worlds will be Free To Play…sort of.

End of Nations is something of an experiment. To my knowledge there’s never been a genuine MMO RTS before, so operating on the basis that this is something someone is going to pay a subscription for is kind of foolhardy, especially when it’s a completely untapped genre. That said, Trion Worlds claim that End of Nations will have completely free single player and co-operative campaigns, as well as around fifty multiplayer battles that people can participate in, in the game’s persistent world.

There are, of course, other options to pay for things if you’re so inclined, but they’re accompanied by phrases like “extra value and convenience”, which can mean anything in legalese.

Thanks, RPS!
