Far Cry 4 Revoked Keys Were Purchased Through Origin, Confirms Ubisoft And EA

January 28, 2015 by Ryan Parreno

EA has subsequently removed all Ubisoft games from Origin to keep fraud from happening again.

Ubisoft has finally shed more light on the revoked Far Cry 4 keys, this time including an unexpected twist. It turns out those keys were purchased through EA’s Origin service.

At the time, it seemed that Ubisoft infringed on consumer’s rights to obtain their games without due cause. Ubisoft’s lack of an explanation led many consumers to question the company and if they were looking out for consumers.

EA actually approached Ubisoft with this information, and basically helped the company out in their investigation of the situation. EA has also independently confirmed this information. Subsequently, EA has removed all Ubisoft games from Origin to stop any future fraudulent activity from happening.

Kinguin and G2A have both pledged to help consumers with refunds on their end. G2A has also sworn that they would take care to ensure merchants who made this happen on their site would be excluded in the future. Before Ubisoft revealed EA’s connection to the case, Kinguin argued that Ubisoft was being unfair towards the players.

In spite of all this information, Ubisoft has yet to account for fans’ right to play games they purchased, or at least, of being properly informed. By implication, Ubisoft is stating they reserve the right to do this to anyone who buys their products, without telling consumers why or giving them other recourse.

Would you still buy Ubisoft’s products digitally? Where do you side in situations like this? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
