Ken Lobb has spoken in earnest about the pending remake of Phantom Dust for Xbox One, which has a chance of being released this year.
Lobb says that the card strategy game will now be a 30 hour RPG, with a strong focus on the story. Lobb himself says it is one of the strengths of the game, and really wants to retell it as he claims only 60,000 people saw it (alluding to game sales).
Lobb also says they are correcting the first game’s mistakes. One really big mistake in his eyes was hiding that the game was a card arena battler until three to six hours in. The new game will be designed in such a way that they will enter PVP before that six hour mark comes up, and that players will have had ‘viable decks’ by the time they reach fifteen hours.
Lobb is still convinced that the game deserved higher critical and commercial reception, and it did not do so because it was ahead of its time. Much like Shigeru Miyamoto and the Pikmin games, Lobb is in position to give his pet project that second chance.
Lastly, Lobb says that they are not sure that players are willing to pay $ 60 for the game’s second chance, so they are considering using alternative pricing models. Lobb referenced the Killer Instinct episodic model in particular, but says that nothing has been decided yet.
