After over twently years, Zombie Studios is dead and buried. From its ashes arises the new and current developer of Blacklight: Retribution, Builder Box Games.
As Zombie Studios noted in the farewell message on their site, they launched around the same time as the original PlayStation, and worked on 30 titles, across most publishers and for every console within its lifetime. For most of its lifetime it was associate with the Spec Ops games, and is most well known now for Blacklight and the two Saw games, but they also made games like Zork Nemesis, ZPC, Super Bobble Pop, Frogger: Hyper Arcade Edition, and more. They also spent significant time working with the US Military, not only with recruitment propaganda game America’s Army: Special Forces, but also the Army’s internal simulation and training games.
Builder Box Games is comprised of the Zombie Studios developers and staff who are tied to Blacklight: Retribution. In specific, the former Director of Production, Andy Kipling, and the former Technical Director, Russell Nelson, are founders and Co-CEOs of the studio.
For fans waiting on the game, you can rest assured that it is still a going concern, with the same developers working on it. For fans of Zombie’s library, however, it remains to be seen what has happened to the rights for these other games. As of right now, only Daylight is on Steam, and Zork Nemesis: The Forbidden Lands is on GOGcom.
