Miegakure for PS4 Brings the Fourth Dimension into the Third

December 4, 2014 by Tony Ponce

And no, the fourth dimension is not time.

When people talk about the "fourth dimension," they are generally referring to spacetime, most likely in the context of time travel. But there is another concept of the fourth dimension that regards it as an actual fourth spatial plane, like length, width, and height. Should such a dimension exist, it would be invisible to us in much the same way that a two-dimensional being would be unable to perceive three-dimensional objects. So… how do you make a game about something most people couldn't even begin to comprehend?

This has been the goal of developer Marc Ten Bosch over the last few years. His puzzle-platformer Miegakure, which has earned recognition as far back as Indiecade 2010, is a monumental test of the mind, asking you to navigate a world that adheres to laws that you'd probably need a master's doctorate in mathematics to fully understand. But players are willing to try, and they are loving the journey so far.

While the game has been in development for PCs all this time, Marc has recently announced a PS4 port that will be demonstrated at the PlayStation Experience on December 6 and 7. If you happen to be in attendance, give it a playthrough. If you are at home, pay close attention and try not to fry your brain. Take your time — there is not set release date just yet.
