The Creative Assembly has announced Total War Battles: Kingdom for PC, Mac, and tablet devices, with the free-to-play game being developed by the team behind the 2012 title Total War Battles: Shogun.
A closed beta has also been announced, but it will only be available on PC. You can sign up to take part on TotalWar.com/Kingdom.
“Adding depth, persistency, and learning from our experience with Total War Battles: Shogun, we wanted to create a new way of playing Total War Battles. Whether that’s on the move or at work over lunch,” Renaud Charpentier, CA Digital Project Lead, commented in a press release. “It shouldn’t matter where you want to play; we want to make it easy to come back again and again to your flourishing Kingdom. Then, we ramp up the complexity and challenge, adding more options to your Machiavellian schemes.”
Kingdom is set during the 10th century, when the world is beginning to emerge from the Dark Ages. The game fuses realm-building with large-scale tactical battles, and players will need to manage their own fiefdom's affairs and raise armies to challenge rival lords.
Eventually, "massed multiplayer wars" will be available, and players can take on other lords or fight to gain the throne of the kingdom.
