Why We Know Fallout 4 Won’t be Shown at The Game Awards

December 3, 2014 by Jacob Saylor

Bethesda Softworks won’t be showing off Fallout 4 at the VGAs.

The Game Awards will be debuting this weekend. While they come off as more of a spiritual successor to the Video Game Awards, which was Spike TV's attempt at an awards show, they're web-based. Due to this, I feel like this might be the best awards show in gaming that we'll have experienced so far, as it's controlled mainly by the game reviewers of the industry. Goeff Keighley, industry bigwig, will be the main man behind the scenes. Though, I guess he'll be in front of the cameras, as well.

It's good to know that just because Spike TV won't be involved, we're still going to have a definitive, year's-end spectacle for video games. A lot of gamers settle their debates about what title deserves Game of the Year by whichever game wins it at these kinds of shows. With that said, hopefully The Game Awards can pick up some the sort of traction that The Video Game Awards held for a number of years.

One speculation that gamers and fans have had is that Fallout 4 will be announced at The Game Awards this weekend. We're sorry to inform that this won't be the case. All the reasoning and guesswork went out the window when Bethesda Softworks, the game's would-be developer, tweeted this earlier today:

"PSA — We're not showing anything at the Game Awards. We'll be there to support @MachineGames."
All that said, this could just be a really solid ploy to throw us all off for a huge surprise announcement. If they are there, then it means there's a chance. Considering Geoff Keighley recently announced that there would be over twelve new game premieres at The Game Awards, we're not leaving anything outside the realm of possibility.
