Xbox One Reportedly Sold Most Consoles on Black Friday in US

December 1, 2014 by Tony Ponce

However, Wii U didn’t do so badly during today’s Cyber Monday sales.

The holiday shopping season officially kicked off last Friday (or Thursday evening, for those outlets that had the crazy idea of opening on Thanksgiving), which means all eyes are on which goods are the hot ticket items of the year. The data tracking group InfoScout examined a 180,000+ sample size of shoppers that included patrons of Walmart, Target, Best Buy, GameStop, RadioShack, and others to determine which videogame console moved the most units on Black Friday. The verdict? Microsoft dominated.

It seems 53% of console buyers walked out with an Xbox One, while 9% took home an Xbox 360. PS4 commanded 31%, while the PS3 lagged behind with a measly 1%. And poor Wii U with its 6% share, placing it fourth on the overall list.

Don't feel too badly for Wii U, however, as it was the console of choice for parents buying for their kids — 92% of Wii U buyers are giving their children the gift of GamePad-enabled Nintendo. Xbox One and PS4 buyers were more interested in getting those machines for themselves, as only 66% and 45% respectively bought them for the little ones.

Wii U also did pretty well earlier today during eBay's Black Friday sale, where you could score an 8GB Basic Wii U bundle with Skylanders and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U for $249.99 or a 32GB Deluxe Wii U bundle with Super Mario 3D World and Nintendo Land for $259.99. Wii Us sold out in 17 minutes, moving 4000 units total or roughly four units per second, a faster rate than even the $399 iPads. Not bad!
