CS:GO Pixelwalking Scandal Resuls In Dreamhack Tournament Reset

November 29, 2014 by Ryan Parreno

The community is in an uproar over a ruling that gives proven cheaters a second chance at a championship.

Germany’s Dreamhack organizers have rendered their verdict on a recent controversial Counter-Strike: Global Offensive competitive match. Because of proven cheating from both sides, Dreamhack will make the players fight the full finals set from scratch.

Final decision. LDLC vs Fnatic last map Overpass will be replayed due to texture transparency and immortal bug used by both teams.

The cheat used was called pixelwalking, allowing players to get up on an invisible ledge, and then on top of other players. This allowed players to find out where their attackers are coming from. Not only will you be prepared to take them a mile away, you could snipe them from that distance and finish the match then and there. You can watch video of the cheat in action below.

Based on how the game played out, the popular sentiment is that Team LDLC were cheated from a win, in spite of being the better players, to rivals Fnatic. While both teams used the cheat, LDLC only used it in the start of the match once, whereas Fnatic was found using it eleven times in a row.

The decision is not being received well by fans, as you can see here and here. As many of these fans argue, the decision gives the alleged cheaters, Fnatic, a second chance to win the championships, in spite of evidence of cheating. Like it or not, the ruling stands and the rematch between the two teams will be underway in the near future.

How do you feel about Dreamhack’s decision? Is this a precedent other eSports/ competitive gaming communities should follow? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
