Just Cause 3 Won’t Have Multiplayer At Launch, But It May Come In The Future

November 18, 2014 by Ryan Parreno

Avalanche is even talking with Shinra Technologies about the possibility.

Avalanche Software has explained that Just Cause 3 will not have multiplayer on release, but they are not discounting adding it in in the future.

Avalanche explains that they are focused on delivering on providing a satisfactory core single player campaign, and they have focused all their efforts to that effect. However, they are open to the idea of adding a multiplayer component, and have, in fact, been rumored to talk with Shinra Technologies, Square Enix’s cloud gaming service.

Neither Shinra nor Avalanche will commit to the game getting a multiplayer mode for sure, but Shinra did confirm that the two companies are talking about the possibility.

Avalanche never designed the Just Cause games with online multiplayer until now, but because of the dedication of fans, specifically Cameron and Jax, Just Cause 2, the prior game, received a  mod so that fans could get into online multiplayer. Doing this required not only extensive programming, but heavy reverse engineering to make it possible. Two years after the game’s release in 2010; the game received an extended lease on life thanks to their multiplayer mod, which was eventually released as an official DLC pack called JC2-MP with Avalanche’s blessing.

If Avalanche is reticent to talk about multiplayer now, it may be because they hope to replicate how delaying that component could extend Just Cause 3’s lifespan. Of course, they may also want to deal with these one mode at a time. If and when Avalanche gets around to it, chances are it will be far broader in scope than what their fans are capable of.

Just Cause 3 will be released on 2015 on Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
