Super Smash Bros. Brawl Fan Mod Project M Gets 3.5 Update on November 14

November 12, 2014 by Tony Ponce

Breathe life back into the Wii fighter with remixed levels, new movesets, new Event matches, and more.

In advance of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U's launch, you're probably interested in replaying some of the older games in the franchise to get yourself properly hyped. Or maybe you don't own a Wii U and don't plan on buying one soon, but you still enjoy a rousing game of Smash from time to time. Have you tried any Smash mods? Thanks to the ease with which modders can alter Wii software, there are tons of mods for Wii's Super Smash Bros. Brawl. The cream of the crop, of course, is Project M.

As with other mods, Project M addresses many of Brawl's mechanical issues that long-time players have complained about, but that's just the beginning. It has brought back discarded fighters (Dr. Mario, Mewtwo, and Roy), drastically changed up every fighters' movesets (Wario has his shoulder bash from Wario Land instead of his motorbike, for instance), altered or added levels, and more. And because applying this mod only requires a copy of the game and a spare SD card with no hacking necessary, it's easily available to anyone who wants to give it a run.

On November 14, the 3.5 update will go live. Changes include remastered N64 stages with improved textures, remixes of Brawl stages such as Hanenbow and Icicle Mountain, all new Event matches, even more new character abilities (Ganondorf gains a hovering technique from Ocarina of Time), and more. Project M has only worked with NTSC game copies thus far, but shortly after the 3.5 launch, it will be made available to PAL users for the first time.

If you want to breathe new life into Brawl, Project M is the way to go.
