Sly Cooper is a pretty old video game franchise at this point. This stealthy platformer franchise first hit the marketplace in 2002 for the PlayStation 2. However, it’s been a long time now since we actually saw the IP receive an installment. The last time we received a video game installment for the Sly Cooper franchise was in 2013. Now we may see this franchise pop back up into the market if rumors prove to be accurate.
Rumors are always bountiful in the video game industry. We’re constantly finding them flood the internet. With that said, we’re really seeing rumors show up suggesting that there is something in the works over at Sony PlayStation. We just received the PlayStation 5 and with it came a couple of notable platformer games that are exclusive to the PlayStation brand. For instance, we received Sackboy: A Big Adventure along with Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. Now another classic platformer franchise could be coming out next.
While rumors and insiders claim that something is coming, we don’t know who will be developing the game. Initially, the first three mainline Sly Cooper games came from Sucker Punch Productions. However, the last installment, Sly Cooper: Thieves In Time, was developed by Sanzaru Games. Not only a game supposedly in the works, but also a television series and movie.
If you don’t recall, a movie was being kicked around. Still, after the lackluster reception of Ratchet & Clank’s film adaptation, things might not look all that promising for a Sly Cooper movie release. There was also a television series potentially in the works. Now that Sony has opened up their own PlayStation Productions studio, it would seem that these adaptations would be coming out from there. But, for now, it’s a waiting game to see just what comes of the Sly Cooper franchise, if anything.
