Super Smash Bros. 4: New GameCube Controller Confirmed to Have Longer Cord Than Original

November 7, 2014 by Tony Ponce

No more taut cables or sitting right up in front of the TV!

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U arrives in just two weeks; in addition to the new fighter, we'll also be getting brand-new GameCube controllers, manufactured exclusively for use with Smash (and your old GameCube consoles, obviously). One of the details I hadn't seen addressed before, however, was the length of the controller's cord. When Super Smash Bros. Brawl launched, Nintendo released white GameCube pads that extended the cord length from 6.5' to 9.8'. I was wondering if these new pads shared the same specifications.

Good news! They do! GoNintendo posted the above Instagram video that compares the cord lengths of the latest pad and the original. While official measurements were not taken, the new cord looks to be about three feet longer, which would safely put it in the same class as the white controller.

Prepare yourself for when Super Smash Bros. for Wii U launches on November 21.
