Tom Clancy’s The Division Will Address Each Platform As Its Own Version

November 6, 2014 by Ryan Parreno

Massive promises no attempts at platform parity with their upcoming open world.

Massive Entertainment’s communications head Martin Hultberg was on hand to talk about Tom Clancy’s The Division. He had a very clear message about fans worried about any attempt at platform parity for the game.

Martin was quite clear that they would optimize the game for each platform available. He talked about Massive addressing every platform as its own version of the game, and for a good experience across all respective formats. He named the PC experience, explaining how they were ensuring a good experience for lower and medium builds, but the game will be scalable if your hardware can accommodate it. Of course, the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions will be optimized in the same way.

He also talked in length about what makes the game distinct from other online games. They will have a level cap that can be raised in time. Massive intends for fans to dedicate themselves to one or a few characters that they can update in time as the studio keeps making new content.

Finally, Martin set the record straight on how progression in the open world occurs. There are missions in the traditional sense, but most of the game revolves around dynamic world events. These events can occur far from you, and even when you are not playing. You can choose to involve yourself in these events, or to avoid them entirely. In this way, Massive intends to create an open world that feels more open than aGrand Theft Auto.

Tom Clancy’s The Division will be released on Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One in 2015.
