Civilization 5 is a game that will let you play as Gandhi or Genghis Khan. You can be a murderous Gandhi or a kind-hearted Khan. This is the how outrageous the world of Civilization is. Gamers have come to love this approach, though, as it brings a sort of lovable irony to an otherwise bloodsoaked experience. The trade negotiations and communication between empires can sometimes be downright hilarious, though.
For those of you who have not had the pleasure of delving into this world yet, Steam is offering the game up for free until Thursday at 10 AM PDT. You can download the title and enjoy it in its full form until then, with the choice to purchase it available to you the whole time, should you decide you like it enough. This isn't uncommon with Steam, who generally offer something like this weekly, if not daily. Valve certainly has a chokehold on the PC games market with Steam. The service has proven itself to be the one-stop shop for all things PC gaming oriented.
Anyway, this is amarketing ploy that we belive is supposed to bring some attention back to the Civilization name ahead of the series' next release on Friday. Titled "Civilization: Beyond Earth," the game will be the first in the franchise to take players off the confines of planet Earth and into space. This shift in perspective has gamers from all over the globe excited and we are looking forward to getting our hands on it, as well.
