Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition Gameplay Videos Show Driving, Combat

October 8, 2014 by Jacob Saylor

New videos spotlighting Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition have surfaced.

Sleeping Dogs released back in 2012 to a largely positive reception. While it made some waves during its first few weeks of release, we can honestly say we weren't really expecting to see a remastered version of the game. It also strikes us as a bit weird that Square Enix wants to go head-to-head with Rockstar Studios, who will be releasing their revamped versions of Grand Theft Auto 5 soon. We're not the marketing experts, though!

Today, we've brought you around seven minutes of gameplay showing just how the Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition improves upon its predecessor. Each video details a specific nuance of the game.

Take a look below:

This video displays the new driving physics of the game, as well as the improved motion blur technology being used. There's also an emphasis on the lighting that wasn't really there before. Overall, we'd say that this is a pretty big improvement over the original game.

In contrast to the much improved driving segments of the Definitive Edition, we can't really say the same for the game's cutscenes. This is understandable, to some degree. There's only so much you can do to improve textures in a scene that has already been captured.

Showing the game's combat, a very important facet of Sleeping Dogs, we'd say there's a modicum of improvement here. Most of the upgrades appear to come in the form of lighting and destructibility.

This video is pretty much the same as the first, except it shows drastically improved night time textures. The animations on each of the characters also look pretty amazing, so we'd say this one is a huge plus for the Definitive Edition.
