Destiny: Iron Banner PvP Guide

October 7, 2014 by Jacob Saylor

Prepare yourself. Destiny’s Iron Banner PvP explained.

Destiny, Bungie's new hit, has been the subject of much controversy since its release las month. It's been described as "gaming's greatest 7," which refers to the various media outlets who gave the game an average review score. This hasn't stopped gamers from enjoying the title, as it continues to gain steam heading into its 'Iron Banner' event.

The 'Iron Banner' event starts today and lets players face off against each other. This might sound a lot like the Crucible, where players can battle one another, but there's one big difference – there's no gear equalization. This will be a game mode where you will be pitted against level 30s even if you are only level 20. Skill doesn't really play a role with that kind of equipment difference, so we'd advise you to – first and foremost – get as close to level 30 as possible.

We've compiled a guide to help you navigate your way through the Iron Banner with as little of your own blood shed as possible.

There are 9 weapons available while the Iron Banner is session. These are all extremely rare and will require a strong performance during the event. There's a recurring theme of "slow and unstable" here, and players who fancy that play style will feel right at home.

Efrideet's Spear Sniper Rifle Impact, Range Rate of Fire, Stability, Magazine
Felwinter's Lie Shotgun Impact, Range, Magazine Rate of Fire, Stability, Equip/Reload, Ammo
Gheleon's Demise Scout Rifle Impact, Range Rate of Fire, Stability
Jolder's Hammer Machine Gun Impact, Range Rate of Fire, Stability, Magazine, Ammo
Perun's Fire Fusion Rifle Charge Rate, Equip/Reload Impact, Magazine, Stability, Range
Radegast's Fury Rocket Launcher Blast Radius, Velocity Rate of Fire, Stability, Magazine
Silimar's Wrath Auto Rifle Rate of Fire, Balanced Impact, Range, Stability
Skorri's Revenge Pulse Rifle Rate of Fire, Magazine, Recoil Impact, Range, Equip/Reload
Timur's Lash Hand Cannon Impact, Range Rate of Fire, Stability, Recoil

Also available during the Iron Banner are 12 armors – 4 for each class. These armors all feature a design inlaid with an elvish-looking tree. In fact, if Lord of the Rings happened in space, we're pretty sure Elrond himself would be wearing this armor.

Iron Regalia Mask Iron Regalia Great Helm Iron Regalia Hood
Iron Regalia Sleeves Iron Regalia Gauntlets Iron Regalia Gloves
Iron Regalia Vest Iron Regalia Plate Iron Regalia Vestments
Iron Regalia Boots Iron Regalia Greaves Iron Regalia Boots

There are also 11 visual items for players to collect, again following this nature-centric design. They look quite good. Note that there are only seven items listed, but there are three others. They are not available from the Iron Banner vendors. They are: Radegast's Iron Sash, Mantle of Efrideet, and Timor's Iron Bond.

Class Shaders Emblems Ships
Jolder's Iron Sash Goldspiral Sigil of the Iron Lords Birth of History
Mantle of Gheleon Million Million Scar of Radegast
Skorri's Iron Bond

Lastly, ten bounties will be available for you to complete. If you're as short on time as we are, this will be more than enough work for you to shoot your way through during the Iron Banner.

Bounty Name Required Task
Anvil of Light Defeat 50 Guardians while competing in the Iron Banner, with the Iron Banner Class, Emblem and Shader items equipped.
Exacting Measures Earn 15 Headshot Sprees while competing in the Iron Banner tournament.
Focused Aggression Defeat 50 Guardians with Auto Rifle headshots while competing in the Iron Banner tournament.
Hard Forged Earn 10000 XP while competing in the Iron Banner tournament.
Heavy Metal Earn 15 Machine Gun Sprees while competing in the Iron Banner tournament.
Iron Embrace Defeat 20 Guardians with a close quarters melee attack while competing in the Iron Banner tournament.
Iron Wrath Defeat 10 Guardians without dying while competing in the Iron Banner tournament.
Of Iron Made Win 3 Iron Banner matches with the Iron Banner Class, Emblem and Shader items equipped.
Rise Above Complete an Iron Banner match with the highest score.
The Chaos and the Calm Defeat 30 Guardians with machine gun headshots while competing in the Iron Banner tournament.

Make your mark in the Iron Banner starting today! It only lasts for one week, so you'd better get started if you want a shot at some of this amazing equipment. Those shaders will also bring a unique look to your character, unavailable in the main game. If aesthetics are of value to you, then we see no better option.
