With many people now playing Super Smash Bros on Japanese 3DS units, Sakurai’s daily screenshots have ramped down a bit. However, he still had a few surprises in store over the week.
On Monday, he shared this week’s results for Conquest Mode. It seems Japanese players are favoring Shulk, from Xenoblade Chronicles, with 56 %, and then Marth, from Fire Emblem, with 44 %.
On Tuesday, the mastermind behind the Smash Bros tournament, Master Glove, was revealed. Its white hand is finally revealed to be a mere glove, and inside it, is not a giant displaced hand, but a mysterious substance that Sakurai is calling a swarm. The swarm’s volume is determined by your fighting skill, and the denser it is, the harder it will be to beat. You will have to fight this swarm in small clusters.
On Wednesday, Sakurai revealed a game reference found in the middle of a reference to another piece of Nintendo software. The Pictochat 2 stage is based on the Nintendo DS chat application that launched with the system a decade ago. On this stage, you will see several Pac-Man scribbles in the background. Sakurai says this is a reference to Pac-Pix, an early Nintendo DS game that required you draw Pac-Man’s iconic outline.
Pictochat will have changing elements in general. In another illustration, Sakurai explained that a stage appeared to have depth, even though it is just a drawing. Sakurai is suggesting that the illustrations in the background will be dynamic and interactive stage elements.
On Thursday, more possible customizations for the Mii Fighters were revealed. The costumes were unveiled before, but Mii Fighters will also be able to wear more hats and facial wear. There is that ninja headband, with a metal Smash Bros logo emblazoned in front, and a hockey mask, reminiscent of a certain video game character, or two.
And today, it was revealed that the Wii U version would be getting a hilarious exclusive stage, based on one of the more popular modes from Game and Wario. In the Gamer stage, you play in a bedroom in the middle of the night, but 5-Volt, the mother of 9-Volt and 18-Volt, is watching to see if anybody’s awake. There are parts of the stage you can hide in, but if she catches you in her stare, watch out! She will scold and blow you away.
Super Smash Bros will be released for the 3DS on October 3, and in Q4 for the Wii U.
