Dragon Ball Xenoverse: Your Custom Character Is the Main Hero

September 23, 2014 by Tony Ponce

An original story in a Dragon Ball game!?

There are so many Dragon Ball fighting games and they almost always boil down to the same thing: Pick familiar heroes, battle through events from the show, unlock Super Saiyan transformations, rinse and repeat. There are only so many times we can save Gohan from Raditz yet again before we lose interest. Thankfully, Dragon Ball Xenoverse is shaping up to be the most original entry in the series thus far, with an all-new story and a brand-new hero: YOU!

According to Bandai Namco during the Tokyo Game Show last weekend, the story revolves around an artificial warrior named Mira and her creator Towa, as they go through history to alter key events in the Dragon Ball saga so that the heroes fail fights that they should have won. Trunks, now in the role of Time Cop, escorts a new fighter of your own design on a trip through time to right these wrongs.

You'll be able to receive training directly from famous Dragon Ball characters and learn their abilities and further customize your look with costume pieces. You'll be able to engage in one-on-one and group battles, and you can fight other players online or go on co-op adventures with them.

Dragon Ball Xenoverse arrives next year on Steam, PS4, PS3, Xbox One, and Xbox 360.
