The Division Dev Discusses How DirectX 12 Will Improve PC/Xbox One Graphics

September 22, 2014 by Stephen Daly

Game development will be faster and easier thanks to DirectX 12 according to The Division dev.

Microsoft's DirectX 12 will help to improve game graphics and make development easier and faster on PC and Xbox One, according to The Division's technical director Anders Holmquist.

Speaking to GamingBolt, Holmquist commented that, “DirectX 12 brings PC and Xbox development closer, which makes development easier and faster, allowing us to focus more on features."

He added that DirectX 12 will enhance visual fidelity and performance “It also lets us work closer to 'the metal', the actual hardware, which means we can push performance and visual quality even more.”

Tom Clancy's The Division is set for release in late 2015 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. It will be interesting to see if and how Ubisoft Massive and other developers make use of the API, with the possibility of a post-release patch for the game if it's launched before DirectX 12's launch.

Ubisoft recently expressed interest in a beta for the game.
