Nintendo has announced that Super Smash Bros for 3DS has sold 1 million units in its first week in Japan.

This makes the first portable iteration of Smash Bros the fourth game to reach this milestone in Japan. The other three games to get there are Monster Hunter 4, Pokemon X and Y, and Youkai Watch 2.
This bodes well for Super Smash Bros for 3DS’ release this October in the US, as well as for other major releases for the rest of the year. Other 3DS games yet to come this year include Fantasy Life, Pokemon Art Academy, Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, and Persona Q Shadow of the Labyrinth, among many others.
Super Smash Bros for 3DS was released in Japan just last September 13, and Nintendo is already planning to ship even more units.
This accomplishment is doubly impressive when you consider that Xbox One had the poorest release of any console in Japan in years. In fact, after months of poor sales numbers reported out of Japan, this stands out as a signal that there is still life in Japan as a gaming market yet.
Super Smash Bros will be released for the 3DS this October 3, and on the Wii U this coming holiday.
