How's the Xbox free game giveaway promotion going? Five points to the Microsoft Marketing team, because if anecdote evidence is anything to go by (it's all we've got so far), the promotion is going well. Select Xbox One bundles are actually sold out at various retailers. (This week's release of Destiny certainly didn't hurt.)
Most notably, the $399 standard edition of the Xbox One is currently listed as 'sold out' at the official Microsoft Store, whereas the $499 +Kinect unit is still available as of writing. This is most likely due to the fact that the Microsoft Store is tossing in an additional $50 Gift Card along with the free game offer.
Over at GameStop, both the Madden NFL 15 Bundle and the Forza 5 Bundle are out of stock online – something that wasn't the case just a day ago. A search on the GameStop in-store availability results in a field of "Low stock" notification for most major US cities with the Madden NFL 15 bundle.
Unlike the two retailers listed above, no stock level issues are reported at Best Buy and Walmart, and it will be interesting to see if Microsoft releases any figure on this promotion in the near future.
For those unaware, the promotion runs through September 13th so if you're on the fence about a free game (plus a $50 gift card at MS Store), you now have a semi-deadline to make up your mind. We suspect a similar offer may appear again during the holiday season if the Xbox One continues to lag behind the PlayStation 4 in sales.
