The Binding of Isaac Will Get Steam Release

July 21, 2011 by Ian Miles Cheong

Edmund McMillen praised Steam for its amazing service and talked about why he wants to put his next game on Steam.

Edmund McMillen, developer of Super Meat Boy and the upcoming title The Binding of Isaac, says that he is going with Steam for the game's distribution because past experience with the Valve platform impressed him. He called the experience "amazing."

In an interview with Destructoid, McMillen elaborated on how Isaac came about, starting as a "game of the week," which ballooned into a full fledged title.

The Blinding of Isaac remains a PC-exclusive title at the moment, but McMillen says he can see the game on the 3DS. "It would be cool to put it on the 3DS not because of the 3D, but because I want something to play on my 3DS."

"Tommy and I are devs for the system and plan on buying a kit this year but don't have any games in mind specifically for the system yet," he said. "Honestly, we never really talk about 'Wouldn't it be cool if we made a game using this system?' It's always 'Wouldn't it be cool to make this game, and then we can see what platforms it works on?"

Further in the interview, McMillen expressed his loyalty to the PC as a gaming platform.

"I'm not a fan of diving specifically for a new system, peripheral, or tech/mechanic. I think I'll always dev games on the PC first, and take them to console if they fit."
