Fatal Frame Wii U Extended Trailer Shows Off GamePad Use

September 10, 2014 by Tony Ponce

The Camera Obscura is in your hands, literally.

Nintendo has just uploaded an extended gameplay trailer for its latest Koei Tecmo collaboration, Zero: Nuregarasu no Miko, better known as Fatal Frame V: The Black Haired Shrine Maiden. The highlight of this nearly five-minute video is the demonstration of GamePad functions. The Fatal Frame series revolves around the use of a relic called the Camera Obscura to photograph and defeat spirits, and in the Wii U sequel, the GamePad is the Camera Obscura.

We've known for a while that the GamePad would be serving this purpose, but seeing it in action truly cements how perfect the application is. While many Wii U games have had trouble using the GamePad in sensible, intuitive ways, Fatal Frame looks to be a slam dunk in that department.

As in previous Fatal Frames, you'll play as female protagonists. This time, your stars are Yuuri Kozukata and Miu Hinasaki, two girls who have ventured towards Hikamiyama mountain in search of their missing loved ones. The previous Fatal Frame was a Wii exclusive and never received a Western localization. Currently, this latest one isn't scheduled for a Western release either, but that could always change.

Fatal Frame V comes out on Wii U in Japan on September 27.
