Destiny players who purchase the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 version of the game are entitled to a free upgrade to the new-gen PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, Activision has revealed.
Customers who buy the last-gen edition of the game through PlayStation Network or Xbox Live will have through January 15, 2015 to redeem a free copy of the game on the system’s new-gen counterpart. Understandably, it isn’t possible to switch from the PS3 to Xbox One or the Xbox 360 to PlayStation 4.
Activision notes that the deal also extends to content from the Digital Guardian Edition and the Expansion Pass.
Thankfully, progress from the game will carry over from the last-gen to new-gen systems as account progress is shared within console families. The last-gen copies of the game will remain playable even after their owners claim the game on their new-gen systems.
The Destiny beta in July saw more than 4.6 million players registered to play the game during a week of early access play that saw parts of the game’s Earth region available to players, in addition to competitive multiplayer maps.
