Dragon Age Inquisition Multiplayer Details

August 30, 2014 by Ryan Parreno

They share information on microtransactions, MP vs SP, dungeon crawling, and more.

Dragon Age Inquisition producer Scylla Costa was interviewed about the game’s newly unveiled multiplayer.

Bioware decided to give Dragon Age multiplayer after seeing their fans enjoy the Mass Effect multiplayer.

For Dragon Age, they wanted fans to experience a party based dungeon crawler. Everybody takes on a role in that party, such as the tank, the healer, support, etc. The party has to stick together to work together, and there is a greater emphasis on dungeon crawling. Diablo was named as an influence.

Elven Ruins, Orlais, and Tevinter were previewed at PAX, but there are also locations unique to multiplayer. These unique locations will have themes reminiscent of locations in the single player, but with different layouts.

The single player campaign is still the biggest Bioware has made for any Dragon Age game, with everything fans enjoy about the franchise. There is no hard connection compelling fans to play both modes, so fans who only want single player can choose to do so.

Dragon Age’s multiplayer will resolve a problem Diablo 3 has had in its own way; picking up loot meant for other player types. They gave the example of a mage obtaining a sword when he needs a staff. The mage can melt down the sword and use the metal as crafting materials for a new staff.

Multiplayer will have microtransactions, but Bioware hold to the philosophy that you should be able to obtain everything in the game from your own efforts. So, you can collect in-game gold coins and eventually get everything if you want. If you did want or have a need for shortcuts, you can buy in-game platinum with your own money.

Bioware has a dedicated PC team working on Dragon Age’s controls, HUD, and performance. Bioware started out on PC, and they state PC fans will be happy with Dragon Age Inquisition on their platform.

Dragon Age Inquisition is coming November 18 to Windows, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
