Dragon Age 3 Inquisition Will Feature Multiplayer

August 26, 2014 by Stephen Daly

Online matches will be played on randomly created maps and games focus on loot.

BioWare showed that multiplayer could work well in the RPG format in Mass Effect 3 and it seems they're trying their hand at it again, this time with Dragon Age: Inquisition.

News of the game's online mode comes from an IGN preview who say that while the game will feature wave-based enemy combat like in Mass Effect 3 groups of players will advanced through randomly generated areas with a heavy focus being placed on loot.

Everything will be accessible simply by playing and all content for the multiplayer will be free. While you can buy currency to speed up unlocks, it's not necessary to do so and EA isn't planning a subscription service.

“One of the things that came out of early explorations is that we wanted the multiplayer characters to be characters,” creative director Mike Laidlaw commented. BioWare didn’t want plain heroes who lack personality and Laidlaw added, “They’re kind of like mini followers, and they banter among themselves.”

Recently, BioWare explained they're also looking to overhaul how characters interact in the single player story romantically, with sex no longer being the ultimate goal in relationships.

On Twitter, Laidlaw described it as "a fun, co-op dungeon crawl with your friends." He added that the multiplayer won't have an impact on the single player unlike Mass Effect 3. The main goal of multiplayer in that game was to increase the strength of the war effort in the single player campaign.

Dragon Age: Inquisition launches on November 18th in North America and November 21st in Europe on PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
