Renegade Kid is one of the big indie success stories on Nintendo hardware. The studio's 3DS platformer Mutant Mudds was a big hit back in 2012, leading to many new developments such as a Mutant Mudds up-port on Wii U and Moon Chronicles on 3DS. The next title in Renegade Kid's lineup was to be Treasurenauts, also on 3DS, but director Jools Watsham suddenly got bitten by the Metroidvania bug and decided to put Treasurenauts on hold in order to whip a new contender into shape: Xeodrifter.
First revealed on GoNintendo, Xeodrifter is based on a 2D concept of Moon Chronicles that the team goofed around with it, although Watsham stresses that the two are not related beyond that. It's planned to be a very short game — Watsham compares the length to Cave Story creator Daisuke Amaya's Ikachan — but it's something he feels he needs to get off his chest before he can focus his undivided attention again towards Treasurenauts.
Xeodrifter is currently scheduled to be exclusive to the 3DS eShop. Read more about it in Watsham's new weekly diary column over on GoNintendo.
