Ryse and Crysis 3 Producer Mike Read leaves Crytek

July 23, 2014 by Ryan Parreno

Read is just the latest in this exodus of top flight talent from the once successful studio.

Mike Read, who led production on Crysis 3 and Ryse: Son Of Rome, has left Crytek Gmbh.

Read delisted himself from the company on LinkedIn, and has subsequently confirmed his status on Twitter. Read was with the company since 2012. Before it,

Read also took to Twitter to express regrets about Crysis 3’s production. Crytek is infamous for their love of high-level graphics, and in that vein Read pointed out that the game had some amazing tech behind it and that they could have done more with the game.

Of course, back then Crysis 3 was released on Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and Windows, and the game’s development was presumably hampered by being on those game consoles, when Crytek wanted to take the game to a level they were not capable of. One wonders how things could have been different if Crysis 3 development was moved to the current incarnations of those consoles, the Playstation 4 and Xbox One.

This comes in the same month Hasit Zala, from Crytek UK (formerly Free Radical) and Tiego Sousa, art director, also left Crytek for greener shores. It is hard for Crytek to now deny that they are going through some troubles, but management is tight-lipped on what’s going on. The Yerlis seem content to let speculation run rampant, but if they want gamer goodwill back, they really need to speak up.
